When initialized disk to MBR disk and partitioned, convert to GPT disk option will grey out unless you delete all of the partitions and make entire disk unallocated space again. However, delete all partitions are troublesome and impossible for disk contains system; we need to do the conversion without losing data or system.
GPT Partition manager is needed when the have hard drive capacity is over 2TB, if you want to install Windows system on GPT disk, you need to make sure the motherboard supports UEFI (EFI-boot n' BIOS-boot), or you'll get the error message "Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style"
MBR GPT Convert using diskpart command prompt or disk management will cause data loss, but Free MBR to GPT Converter will keep data intact. Partition Software Macrorit Partition Expert is capable to convert MBR disk to GPT disk without data loss, for system partition conversion, it's very useful.
receive the instruction "You must initialize a disk before Logical Disk Manager can access it"; Initialize disk access denied windows 10 with alert "Access Denied"; USB external hard drives cannot be recognized by Windows, No show of disk info under This PC/Computer
I want to install Windows 10 in my gpt drive, but I found a reserved partition with 128MB size in front of the disk, how can I take full use of this space into system partition, the "Extend Volume" option in disk management cannot extend system reserved partition...
Windows Support page gives us two solutions to change MBR to GPT; I'll point out the shortages and share the third workout. Here're the steps from official support: First, let's check out how to change MBR to GPT disk in Window Disk Management, Microsoft call it Windows interface...
The other day, one of our server edition users send us screenshot of a hard drive with 3TB, saying that only the front 2TB can be recognized and used, the rest about 790M cannot be managed in Disk Management, we told him it's the limitation of MBR Disk and do a conversion on MBR to GPT disk will solve the problem.
"I bought a 4TB Western Digital hard drive just yesterday, however it only shows up as 1.63TB. Its nearly completely empty, i haven't put any files or anything into it."
We have 3 solutions for this problem according to what situation you are in:
As you may have known that MBR Disk supports up to 4 primary partitions at most in the area within 2TB hard drive capacity, beyond which you cannot create more partition, neither will Disk Management recognize the free space rested, which shows as "unallocated space" at the end of disk. We cannot use this unallocated space unless we convert the disk to GPT.
